Teacher / Naturalist
We are currently seeking Teacher / Naturalists to deliver our Outdoor Classrooms curriculum in Boston Public Schools and to help develop and adapt the curriculum to meet the needs
of public school teachers.
EarthWorks Boston’s environmental education programs began as informal lessons on tree care, gardening, composting and basic ecology at elementary and middle schools. In 1996, EarthWorks developed more formalized lessons and launched the Outdoor Classroom Program acting on the requests of principals and teachers at several schools with fruit and nut orchards planted by EarthWorks. Outdoor Classrooms deepens students' understanding of the Boston Public School science curriculum and helps them to become responsible caretakers of the environment. Last year EarthWorks was in 5 schools reaching over 1000 kids.
Responsibilities:
- Develop relationships with public school administrators, teachers, and parent groups.
- Deliver high quality educational programs to elementary students.
- Evaluate and adapt Outdoor Classrooms Curriculum to meet the needs of teachers.
- Oversee and manage the care and harvest of school yard orchards.
- Develop strong relationships with partner organizations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in education, environmental science, or related field.
- Preference for candidates with inner-city public school experience.
- Desire to work hard and to make a difference in under-privileged children’s lives!
- Passion for the environment and building strong, diverse, and culturally competent communities!
- Candidates with foreign languages, particularly Spanish are encouraged to apply.
This is a great position for someone that wants to work outside of the traditional classroom setting, yet still wants to make a difference in children’s lives. We are small non-profit that believes in hard work and rewarding success. The successful candidate will be paid commensurate with their experience; will receive health insurance, and a generous amount of paid time off.
